Video Tutorial - Setting Up a Cashback Promotion

Introduction

Discover the cashback promotion feature of Intershop Commerce Management. 
The cashback feature enables customers to receive an adjustable amount of cashback money as a coupon code after their purchase. In this way customers have an incentive to make further purchases.

This video tutorial shows how a simple cashback promotion can be set up.

Tasks

This video tutorial shows all relevant steps to create a basic cashback promotion. This includes the following tasks:

  • Enabling the cashback feature
  • Creating a cashback promotion code group
  • Creating a cashback earning promotion
  • Creating a cashback redemption promotion
  • Searching for cashback promotion codes

Furthermore, the video tutorial shows how a customer can earn and redeem cashback in the storefront.

Walkthrough

Enable the Cashback Feature

  1. Go to the inTRONICS channel.
  2. Go to Preferences | Promotion Preferences.
  3. Go to the Cashback Settings tab.
  4. Mark the Enabled checkbox. 
  5. Adjust the following settings if required:

    Code Length

    Defines the number of characters per Code. The default length are 8 characters.

    Info

    The generated codes are channel-wide unique. Therefore adjust the code length to the expected number of orders the cashback promotion applies to.
    Code PrefixOptional: Allows to define a prefix text with which all cashback promotion codes start, followed by the actual code.
    Excluded CharactersOptional: Specifies characters that must not be used within cashback promotion codes. Multiple characters are separated with a comma.
  6. Click Apply.

Set Up a Cashback Promotion Code Group

  1. Go to Marketing | Promotion Codes.
  2. Switch to the Promotion Code Groups tab.
  3. Click New.

  4. Provide the following information:

    NameCashback Promotion Code Group
    Active(tick)
    IDcashback
    DescriptionCashback promotion codes will be stored in this promotion code group.
  5. Click Apply.

Set Up the Cashback Earning Promotion

  1. Go to Marketing | Promotions.
  2. Click New | Customized Promotion.
  3. Enter the following information:

    Specific Priority0Use the lowest priority (0) to ensure that the cashback earning is the last promotion and all other discounts are subtracted first.
    CalculationDiscounted PriceThe calculation should be based on the discounted price to ensure that the cashback is earned for the final price where other discounts are subtracted first.
    CombinationFreely CombinableCashback earning promotions are always combinable with any other promotion, independent of this setting.
  4. Click Apply
  5. Switch to the Target Group tab and set Customer Segments - Registered Customers as target group.
  6. Switch to the Discount Rules tab.
  7. Create a new Cashback Earning condition and click Apply.
    1. Click No promotion code groups assigned, select the previously created group and click Assign.
    2. Set Validity Period, e.g. 30 days.
  8. Set Promotion discount. The discount value corresponds to the earned cashback.
    1. Click New.
    2. Choose Order | Order Percentage Off | 10%.
    3. Click Ok.
  9. Click Back to List.

Set Up Cashback Redemption Promotion

  1. Go to Marketing | Promotions.
  2. Click New | Customized Promotion.
  3. Enter the following information:

    Specific PriorityDefault Priority 1.100The cashback redemption promotion has the highest priority per default.
    Combinationnot combinableSelect whether this promotion should be combinable or not. Due to the fact that it has the highest default priority, this promotion will always be the first (and only one, if not combinable) that is executed.
  4. Click Apply
  5. Switch to the Target Group tab and set Customer Segments - Reigistered Customers as target group.

    Info

    Since the cashback is stored customer-specifically, the customer check is executed implicitly during the code redemption process. Therefore the target group can be set to Everyone as well. 

  6. Switch to the Promotion Code tab.
    1. Check 'Promotion Code Required'
    2. Click Apply.
    3. Below click Use Promotion Code Groups and add the previously created code group.
  7. Switch to the Discount Rules tab.
  8. Create a new Promotion Discount.
    1. Click New.
    2. Choose Cashback Redemption.
    3. Click Apply.

Tip

Feel free to adjust conditions as well. Intershop recommends to exclude gift cards, so the feature cannot be exploited.

Search for Cashback Promotion Codes

The promotion code search allows to retrieve status information for individual promotion codes.
This can either be done with the cashback promotion code search, which allows to search by customer name or e-mail or with the regular promotion code search which allows to search by the coupon code itself. 

Cashback Promotion Code Search:

  1. Go to Marketing | Cashback Promotion Codes.
  2. Enter the customer's e-mail address, ID or login name.
  3. Click the promotion code for which you want to view more details. 
    A detail page with status information appears if the code is available. 

Promotion Code Search:

  1. Go to Marketing | Promotion Codes. 
  2. Enter a promotion code.
  3. Click the promotion code in the list.
    A detail page with status information appears if the code is available.
